Deacon Smeacon
A few hours ago, I was elected to serve as deacon at my home church. Although it took me 25 years to fill this position, the honor of serving God has always been there for me. I live in a great country where I can celebrate the name of Christ on a daily basis without the persecution of most. It is a privilege to serve in a greater capacity as I owe my very life to God for all that He has done for my family and I. My hope and my prayer is that I will continue to look outside myself and render my services with a heart of compassion, viewing, most often, through the lens of God. My desire is to make my life count for something good. For those who are uncertain, let me just tell ya, God is good! It is an ambition of mine to help the helpless, provide for the needy and to inspire people through the gifts that God has given me. There are plenty of people that attend church to warm up a pew or simply play church. To those people, I would say, don't waste your time, God doesn't need the spare change. As harsh as that may seem, it's a reality. Don't accept this mentality but challenge yourself to step out of the boat and serve an Almighty God. Now, to be honest, the title of "deacon" doesn't mean much to me, but the ability to honor my Father in Heaven, is a humbling experience to say the least and I graciously accept this opportunity. Remembering, "Job well done, good and faithful servant" are words to live by.
