Love Defined
Yesterday, I was given the opportunity to speak at a local church on the topic of love, not an easy task by no means. Although many dictionaries attempted to define it, most of them described love as a feeling. I turned to the Bible for a deeper meaning, a deeper understanding and I got just that. 1 Corinthians 13, tells us that love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast. It is not rude, it keeps no record of wrongs. Lastly, love never fails. I was able to draw all of these together by applying 1 John that says "God is love". In other words, if God is removed from the love equation, then love will fail, love will not be patient or kind, love will keep a record of wrongs. My conclusion in speaking on such a lofty topic was that we need God because apart from Him, our ability to demonstrate love in this world is limited at best. I closed my speaking engagement with Luke 15:11, also known as the Prodigal Son. All of what was mentioned above is shown in this remarkable story of a Father and his two sons. Do yourself a favor and take time to read this, I promise, it will change your outlook forever! Finally, there is no greater love than that of a man who is willing to lay his life down, for a friend. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GnT8W-9Fm-g&feature=related
